Drinking alcohol made from grapes or dates is generally not allowed in Islam. Even if the beverage is labeled as non-alcoholic, there are some important things to keep in mind.
Many people make non-alcoholic wine by removing most of the alcohol after the fermentation process.
Is Non-Alcoholic Wine Halal in Islam?
No, It is not halal.
They do this using methods like vacuum distillation or reverse osmosis, which let the beverage keep the flavors and smells of regular wine but with less than 0.5% alcohol. However, since it still contains alcohol, consuming it is problematic in Islam.
It’s also important to understand that drinking such beverages to imitate non-Muslims or disbelievers is considered impermissible. Even if someone doesn’t mean to copy them intentionally, the act often stems from a desire to imitate their behavior. Because of this, it is not allowed to drink non-alcoholic wine.
Evidence
The majority of scholars agree that wine is any juice from grapes that ferments, thickens, and creates a foam, which Allah has clearly forbidden in His Book and the Messenger’s teachings. All scholars agree that it’s forbidden, whether it’s in small or large amounts. Drinking it leads to sinful behavior and disbelief if one tries to justify or believe it’s permissible.
The main sources say there are four types of forbidden drinks:
- Wine, which is grape juice that ferments and thickens with foam.
- Drinks cooked until less than two-thirds of the original content remain.
- Grape or date infusion (nabeed), which has become strong.
- Wine made from dates or grapes that is cooked, but can be lawful if not strong and drunk without intoxication for health or food purposes.
The evidence explains that any intoxicating drink made from grapes, whether it’s very little or lots, is forbidden. The verse calls wine “a filthy thing” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:90). Scholars agree that anything that causes intoxication, whether it’s called wine or not, falls under this ruling.
Bottom Line
In simple words, drinking non-alcoholic wine made from grapes or dates is not allowed. Even if it contains tiny amounts of alcohol, it’s still impermissible because it’s related to alcohol and leads to imitating disbelievers. It’s better to avoid it altogether for your safety and faith.

As salaams, kindly advise if the non-alcoholic beers are also haraam for us..?
Jazaakallah
Most scholars rule non-alcoholic beer **haram** due to trace alcohol. Only **0.0% with verified halal certification** may be permissible—always check the label.
Jazaakallah for the perfectly explained ruling on the non-alcoholic wine matter 🙂 🙂
