Malaysia has been honored as the world’s leading Muslim‑friendly travel destination for 2025, capturing the ‘Top Muslim‑Friendly Destination of the Year’ title in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) for the tenth consecutive year.
The accolade was presented at the 4th Halal in Travel Awards in Singapore, where Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan accepted on Malaysia’s behalf.
In his acceptance remarks, Khairul Firdaus praised the collaboration between government bodies, private‑sector partners, and local communities in ensuring Malaysia’s continuing success.
“This award reflects our collective commitment to making Malaysia inclusive, accessible, and hospitable for Muslim travelers,” he said.
He also highlighted the role of the Islamic Tourism Centre and its key programs—the Muslim‑Friendly Tourism and Hospitality Assurance and Recognition (MFAR) scheme and Muslim‑Friendly Tourist Guides certification—in raising service standards across the industry.
The GMTI, compiled by CrescentRating, assesses destinations on halal food availability, prayer facilities, family‑friendly services, and overall cultural sensitivity.
Malaysia’s infrastructure for halal certification, widespread prayer venues, and embedded hospitality policies have kept it at the forefront of Muslim‑friendly travel.
Khairul Firdaus also thanked CrescentRating and Mastercard for their support in promoting halal tourism and noted that such recognition fosters healthy competition among destinations and signals the growing influence of Muslim travellers on global tourism trends.
Looking ahead to Visit Malaysia Year 2026, he extended a warm invitation to visitors worldwide: “Experience our rich heritage, vibrant festivals, and unwavering hospitality next year.”
