Responding in an impressive one-minute timeframe, paramedics arrived on the scene, located in the King Fahd walkway area of the Mecca Mosque, after receiving an emergency call at 11:19 a.m. on Friday.

The rapid response team found the man, in his fifties, unconscious and not breathing. Following established protocols, paramedics immediately initiated treatment with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) under the ‘Whoever Revives Her’ initiative within the Haram area.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed using the LUXE device, eventually restoring the pilgrim’s pulse. He was then transported to a nearby medical facility for ongoing care and observation.

  1. The Saudi Red Crescent team is doing yeomen service in the medical field. Particularly during emergencies they are a boon to the sick pilgrims. During Hajj season they are much sought after and their services are much appreciated. Even helicopter ambulance is available at short notice. The authorities should increase the number of medical teams and reduce response time. The authorities should also restrict giving visas to persons with pre existing major diseases like cancer or heart diseases etc. and also in cases of major disabilities.
