The capacity of the place where Sa’i is performed at the Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque of Makkah) is increased to 118,000 pilgrims per hour. The place is also known as Al Mas’aa.
What is Al-Mas’aa?
People perform Sa’i by taking seven circles from Safa to Marwa, and the space between Safa and Marwa is called al-Mas’aa.
Al-Mas’aa is 40 meters wide and 394 meters long, total distance a pilgrim covers in the Sa’i rite is around 2.7 kilometers.
Sa’i rite is linked to the struggle of Hajar, wife of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S), to remind people about the thirst of her Infant Prophet Ismail (A.S).
The ongoing expansion has increased the width of the Al-Mas’aa area to 40 meters instead of 20. In comparison, the overall allocated area of its structure and other services is about 125,000 square meters, as the Saudi Press Agency reported.
