BARCELONA – Zara, the fashion retailer, is facing significant backlash on the internet due to their recently unveiled advertising campaign.
Criticism is frequently voiced on social media platforms regarding the tasteless nature of the images, which, in the eyes of numerous individuals, bring to mind the tragic civilian casualties in Gaza.
Zara unveiled its contentious campaign on Friday, which promptly sparked a barrage of criticism. The provocative images depict a model encircled by mannequins, draped in white sheets. In response to the adverse feedback, Zara has taken down a few of these photos from their website, although they remain accessible on other platforms.
The responses on social media are fervent and occasionally filled with strong emotions. Numerous users and patrons of Zara are advocating for a boycott of the establishment.
Zynab Al Aziz, a Palestinian journalist, expressed her discontent by stating, "This is a new level of insensitivity. Our suffering should not be exploited for profit."
Palestinian artist Hazem Harb also voiced his concerns on Instagram, emphasizing, “The incorporation of death and destruction into the realm of fashion is truly abhorrent. It is inconceivable that this was not done intentionally.”
As of now, Zara has not addressed the uproar surrounding their campaign.
