26-year-old Turkish cyclist Burak Ozturk has begun an extraordinary 6,000-kilometer journey from Stuttgart, Germany to Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj in 2025.

Ozturk’s will travel across ten countries as he aims to reach the holy city before the annual pilgrimage begins in June 2025.

The ambitious cyclist is sharing his adventure through regular updates on social media, allowing followers to witness his progress through diverse landscapes and cultures. While he hasn’t set a specific arrival date, Ozturk expressed confidence that he will reach Mecca well before the commencement of Hajj rituals.

Ozturk’s meticulously planned route will guide him through a diverse tapestry of nations spanning Europe and the Middle East. His path includes Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Greece, and his ancestral homeland of Türkiye, before continuing through Syria and Jordan to finally reach Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam.

Ozturk revealed that he had originally planned this journey two years ago but had to postpone due to pressing family circumstances. Undeterred by the setback, he used the intervening time to finalize all necessary preparations, including securing visas and permits to ensure safe passage through each country on his route.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has already opened registration for Saudi citizens and Muslim residents wishing to participate in this year’s Hajj.

Last year’s pilgrimage saw approximately 1.8 million Muslims in attendance, including 1.6 million international pilgrims.
