Taiwan has contributed more than NT$127.4 million (US$4 million) in humanitarian aid, its representative office in the US announced on Tuesday (Oct. 2).

Alexander Tah-ray Yui, Taiwan’s representative, highlighted this contribution during the 10th annual Global Coalition meeting in Washington, D.C. He explained that the aid, focused on northeast Syria, is aimed at supporting stability in the Middle East.

“This year, Taiwan’s assistance focused on revitalizing civil society in northeast Syria, with initiatives to improve public health, enhance quality of life, and strengthen the capabilities of first responders,” the representative office said in a press statement.

As a Coalition member and responsible global participant, Taiwan remains committed to supporting the Coalition’s mission and contributing to regional stabilization efforts, Yui emphasized.

The 87-member group has already pledged over US$200 million to address terrorism and aid displaced populations in Iraq and Syria, according to the US State Department. During the meeting, members endorsed raising an additional US$194 million for these efforts.
