Security of Imams of the Haramain increased after multiple threats were reported.
A video uploaded on Facebook shows the imam walking in the Grand Mosque area escorted by a lot of security guards. Indeed, in recent days there have been reports of multiple threats directed at the Imams of Masjidil Haram.
The security of the Imams of Haramain has been increased in order to protect the imams and also prevent potential attacks in the near future.
With the pilgrimage approaching, it is feared that more threats or even real attacks could occur at the Grand Mosque. On Hajj season this year, it seems that the government will not only be prepared to anticipate the spread of the coronavirus but also must be prepared to face attacks that aim to weaken Islam or even to distract pilgrims during the pilgrimage.
Back in May 2021, a man attempted to attack an Imam at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. The armed man, dressed in ihram (the traditional white cloth worn by pilgrims), was seen approaching the imam’s pulpit while Sheikh Bandar Baleelah, one of the Imans of Grand Mosque, delivering the Friday sermon.
Luckily the security guard moved quickly to secure the man and arrested him. And as reported by Arab News, police revealed that the attacker claims to be Imam Mehdi (Messiah).
A number of attacks have occurred in the Grand Mosque with some of them targeting imams. By targeting the imams, the attackers hoped to weaken Islam, especially during the Hajj season like this.
On the other hand, Saudi authorities have approved the security plan for this year’s Hajj season, and that violations will be dealt with appropriately. The security officers will carry their duties along all roads, security check posts, and as well as at the sites and corridors leading to the central area around the Grand Mosque.
May Allah (SWT) always protect our Imams and make it easy for pilgrims to perform Hajj this year.
