The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has issued a directive for all citizens and residents to observe the sky on the evening of 29 Ramadan 1446, corresponding to Saturday, 29 March 2025, in search of the Shawwal crescent. This call comes as part of the process to mark the end of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid al-Fitr.
According to the directive, individuals who witness the crescent—either with the naked eye or using binoculars—are urged to report their findings to the nearest court. This reporting will help consolidate official moon sighting data, ensuring that the announcement of Eid is based on verified observations.
The move reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued efforts to adhere to traditional methods of moon sighting while incorporating modern measures for accuracy and accountability. As the end of Ramadan approaches, the successful sighting of the Shawwal crescent is a crucial step in the Islamic lunar calendar, determining the start of Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Citizens and residents are advised to stay informed through official channels for further updates on moon sighting procedures and to ensure that any sightings are promptly communicated to the relevant authorities.
