Sania posted on Instagram saying, “Dear friends and loved ones, I’m excited to share that I’ve been given the amazing chance to go on the sacred journey of Hajj. As I get ready for this life-changing experience, I humbly ask for your forgiveness for any mistakes I’ve made. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to seek redemption and spiritual renewal.”

“I hope that Allah accepts my prayers and guides me on this special journey. I feel really lucky and incredibly grateful. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I take on this important journey. I aim to return as a better person with a humble heart and stronger faith.”

Hajj is the holy journey that Muslims make to the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This year, it will happen from June 14 to June 19.

Sania, a six-time Grand Slam champion, wrapped up her amazing career at last year’s Australian Open. She and her mixed doubles partner, Rohan Bopanna, made it to the final but lost to Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos.

She grabbed her first big win at the Australian Open in 2009, taking the mixed doubles title with Mahesh Bhupathi. After that, she won mixed doubles at the French Open in 2012 and the US Open in 2014.

In 2015, Sania teamed up with Martina Hingis, and together they won three major titles in a row: Wimbledon and the US Open in 2015, and the Australian Open in 2016.

In April 2015, Sania became the Doubles No.1 for the first time, making her the first Indian woman to hold the top ranking on the WTA Tour.
