MECCA — Saudi authorities have announced designated entry and exit gates at the Grand Mosque in Mecca to manage the anticipated surge of Umrah pilgrims during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, expected to begin around March 1.

Key Entry Points for Mataf Courtyard

The General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques identified three primary gates for Umrah pilgrims to access the Mataf (circumambulating area):

  • King Fahd Gate (No. 79)
  • Ajyad Gate (No. 3)
  • Umrah Gate (No. 62)

These gates will direct pilgrims to the Tawaf area, while dedicated exits from the Mas’a (ritual walking area between Safa and Marwah) have been allocated on the ground and first floors via the Al Shabika, Ajyad, and Al Abbas bridges.

Authorities emphasized that awareness of these designated routes is critical to avoiding congestion, particularly during peak hours.

With Ramadan historically marking the peak of Umrah activity, Saudi Arabia is intensifying preparations to accommodate millions of worshipers.

Measures include crowd control systems, expanded prayer spaces, and real-time guidance through the Nusuk app.

Health and safety protocols, such as sanitation stations and medical teams, are also being reinforced.
