JEDDAH: A powerful thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds has caused significant disruptions to Umrah flights in Jeddah, with authorities reporting cancellations and delays at King Abdulaziz International Airport.
The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) recorded wind speeds reaching 116.68 km/h at the airport station, marking one of the most intense weather events this season.
The storm, which blanketed Jeddah in heavy rain, resulted in visibility challenges across the city.
The iconic Clock Tower was shrouded in thick clouds, and intense rainfall continued to pour as indicated by weather radar imagery.

Inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the inner lights were turned on during Duhur prayers at around 12 PM to counter the darkened skies.
Authorities have cautioned against false beliefs surrounding the rainwater falling from the Kaaba’s gutter, reminding worshipers to adhere to the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) guidance in their worship.
“Be careful that your obedience is in accordance with the guidance of your Prophet…and be keen to prepare the environment of worship and the atmosphere of faith,” officials stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining safety and avoiding crowding during adverse weather conditions.
