As the Hajj 2025 season begins, Saudi authorities have issued a firm reminder to all incoming and outgoing pilgrims: Any individual carrying cash, precious metals, or valuable items exceeding SAR 60,000 must fill out a customs declaration form at the port of entry or exit.
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority confirmed that this requirement applies not only to Saudi Riyals but also to any equivalent amount in foreign currency, gold bars, jewelry, precious stones, or financial instruments such as bonds or cheques. This regulation is in place to enhance financial transparency and prevent activities such as money laundering and smuggling.
The authority urged all pilgrims to comply with the rule and to avoid carrying large sums of money when not necessary. Pilgrims are encouraged to use safer financial alternatives such as international bank cards, mobile wallets, or wire transfers.
Travelers can obtain and submit the customs declaration form either at the airport or online through the Saudi customs platform. Failing to declare assets above the legal threshold may lead to serious consequences, including fines, seizure of funds, and potential legal action.
Officials advise pilgrims to consult with their Hajj group leaders or travel agents if they are unsure about whether their belongings require declaration. Special arrangements are also in place to assist non-Arabic speaking pilgrims in understanding the process.
For more details, pilgrims are encouraged to visit the official website of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority or consult with Hajj mission representatives upon arrival.
