On Wednesday, May 25, 2023, a Hindutva mob attacked a bus carrying Hajj pilgrims in Rajasthan, India. Many pilgrims were injured when rocks were thrown at the bus carrying women and children.
On its way to the Jaipur airport, the bus was attacked in the Kota district of Rajasthan. The mob of Hindutva men threw stones at the bus. Overpowered and outnumbered, the pilgrims tried to defend themselves.
Hindu slogans were also raised by the mob against the pilgrims. There was also violence threatened against some pilgrims if they didn’t convert.
Pilgrims complained to the police after they arrived at the scene. It was, however, too late for the mob to disperse by that point.
A nearby hospital treated the injured pilgrims. The police have opened an investigation into the Hindutva mob, but no arrests have been made as of yet.
Many people, including the Indian government, have condemned the attack on Hajj pilgrims. The government has assured pilgrims they will be safe and those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice.
