Malaysian Man With Autism Memorizes Entire Quran

Muhammad Naquib Ajmal Mohd Jamal Nasir, a 26-year-old with autism, proudly graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Quranic Studies and Sunnah from Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UNIPSAS) on Monday.

Despite the challenges posed by his condition, Naquib not only completed his studies but was also honored with a special award during the university’s 21st convocation ceremony, according to Bernama.

Grateful for the support of his parents and educators, Naquib acknowledged their role in his success. “Without their support, I might not have graduated or received this award today… I am truly thankful,” said Naquib, who is now an instructor at the Akademi Syahadah Tahfiz Al-Faizin in Kuala Selangor.

Naquib faced hurdles balancing his time between Quranic recitation practice, tajwid, and reviewing the 30 chapters of the Quran he memorized as a teenager. Yet, he remained focused on his studies and spiritual growth.

His parents, Mohd Jamal Nasir Ismail and Anita Elias, reflected on his journey, recalling the difficulties after his autism diagnosis at age seven.

“He didn’t make eye contact and was slow in speech; he only started speaking Malay at nine, though not fluently. Interestingly, he knew more words in English and Arabic,” said Anita, an Islamic Education teacher.

A doctor had once noted Naquib’s exceptional memory, and his mother expressed gratitude for his achievements, especially his ability to memorize the Quran.

  • It is not a mean achievement compared to his autism at a young age. Only a strong grit and unstinted support from his parents has brought him to this level which healthy souls will find difficult to achieve. Seeing his enthusiasm he will no doubt reach greater heights and definitely Allah is with him. Aameen. Congratulations to him and his family.
