Saudi Arabia Bans Allah’s 99 Names on Product Packaging and Bags

New directive prohibits commercial entities from printing the Beautiful Names of God on disposable items to prevent inappropriate or disrespectful disposal.

The Saudi Ministry of Commerce has prohibited commercial establishments from printing the Beautiful Names of God (Al-Asma Ul Husna) on items such as shopping bags, product packaging, and similar disposable materials.

To prevent situations where these sacred names could be treated disrespectfully through improper use, disposal, or handling.

Ministry spokesperson Abdulrahman Al-Hussain announced the directive, stating it stems from a commitment to “revere and protect” the names of Allah.

This will ensure these names are not placed on objects destined for casual or potentially inappropriate use, safeguarding their sanctity.

This regulation complements existing commercial name laws. Saudi trade name regulations already forbid using names from a prohibited list, including names of governmental entities, and include specific rules for registering names containing “Saudi Arabia” or city names.

Businesses must now ensure their packaging and promotional materials comply with this guidance.
