Renowned Pakistani religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza has been arrested under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance on orders of the Jhelum Deputy Commissioner.
According to the police, Engineer Ali Mirza was taken into custody due to concerns that his activities could “disturb public order or endanger public safety.”
Local authorities also sealed Mirza’s private academy in Jhelum city, where he regularly delivered lectures and hosted religious discussions.
Ali Mirza has been transferred to jail. Leaders of other religious party met with the police that made the arrest possible.
The Punjab Police confirmed the arrest but did not specify formal charges, citing preemptive measures under MPO regulations.
Section 3 of the MPO permits detention based on perceived threats to public safety without immediate formal charges.
According to the police, Ali Mirza was arrested at the deputy commissioner’s orders.
