- The Ministry of Law is revising legislation to formalize BP Haji’s ministry status.
- Commission VIII of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) endorsed the move to reduce bureaucracy.
- Transition completes before the 2026 Hajj season.
Indonesia will transform its Hajj Organizing Body (BP Haji) into a ministry-level institution by 2026, centralizing all pilgrimage management under a single entity.
President Prabowo Subianto mandated the overhaul to deliver “focused, professional, and world-class Hajj services,” ending decades of fragmented oversight between agencies.
BP Haji expert Ichsan Marsha confirmed the move, noting plans for a dedicated Hajj ministry began as early as 2014.
“President Prabowo’s vision demands excellence in serving pilgrims,” Marsha stated. “This institution will fully implement Hajj operations, replacing the current split authority with the Ministry of Religion.”
Commission VIII emphasized the reform must ensure “efficient, structured operations without jurisdictional overlap.” The restructure responds to longstanding pilgrim complaints about coordination failures and service delays during visa processing, accommodation, and transit.
Marsha affirmed BP Haji’s readiness: “We will unify Indonesia’s Hajj management under one accountable authority.” The model draws inspiration from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
