Abdul Wahab bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi has been appointed as the 110th Key Holder of the Kaaba, following the recent passing of Saleh Al Shaibi.
The ceremonial handover of the key was conducted in the presence of the 78th ruler, Abdul Wahab bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi, as per the tradition of entrusting the responsibility to the eldest member of the Al-Shaibi family.
The role of the Key Holder of the Kaaba dates back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Al-Shaibi family has held this honor since the Prophet bestowed the key upon Uthman ibn Talha (R.A.), making this appointment a significant continuation of an age-old legacy.
Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi’s first official duty as the Key Holder will oversee the replacement of the Kiswah, the cloth draping the Kaaba. This ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 1st of Muharram, the Islamic New Year.
The passing of Saleh Al-Shaibi, the 109th Key Holder, marks the end of an era. His services to the holy site were honored and remembered, he was laid to rest in Al Mualla Cemetery. The Al-Shaibi family continues to play a pivotal role in the spiritual life of the Muslim world through this custodian role.
With this new appointment, the traditions and responsibilities of the Key Holder continue, ensuring that the sanctity and heritage of the Kaaba are preserved for future generations.
