STOCKHOLM – Salwan Momika, an Iraqi refugee living in Sweden, made his way to the capital Stockholm on Monday to read the Quran and once again desecrate Islamic scriptures.
Momika’s attack on the Qur’an, backed by Salwan Nagem from Iraq, took place in front of the parliament building in Stockholm.
After chanting Islamophobic slogans, Momika stepped on the Quran and eventually burned a copy of it.
But Momika and Nagem faced reactions from Swedish activist groups calling for an end to the provocation.
Police protecting the attackers arrested one of the activists who tried to stop the attack. Earlier, on June 28, the first day of the Islamic holiday Eid al-Adha, Momika burned the Quran outside a mosque in Stockholm under police protection.
In recent months, Islamophobic individuals and groups have repeatedly burned and desecrated the Quran, especially in Northern Europe and Nordic countries.
