The Turkish- Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB), an umbrella group of Turkish-Muslim religious organisations, reported that a copy of the Muslim holy book Quran was burned and thrown outside a mosque in southwestern Germany.

As a result of an incident caused by a moving vehicle, a woman was killed outside the Mimar Sinan Mosque in Maulbronn, located in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg.

As per the information received from Osman Adibelli who is the director of mosque association, the incident occured on July 8, during the night of Saturday

At 4.45 a.m. (0245 GMT), he observed the burning of a Quran at the entrance to the mosque. After reviewing the surveillance video footage, we determined that the source of the object was a vehicle on the main street that threw an object in front of the mosque shortly after the incident.

  1. Desecration of the Quran in front of a mosque is yet another offensive and provocative act that is disrespectful and unacceptable by people at large. Such an act is not free expression but it is an expression of contempt and hatred that only serve to fuel anger and trigger violence. It is an extremist act and contradicts international efforts seeking to spread the values of tolerance, moderation, and mutual respect for relations between people in the countries.
