Saudi Arabia reveals a robot programmed to distribute Zamzam water hygienically to help quench the thirst of pilgrims.
Often there are long queues of pilgrims to quench their thirst while at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. But now that there is a new robot to solve that problem, this robot is programmed to distribute Zamzam throughout the mosque.
On Sunday, the robot was put out on the show and start moving around the mosque. As it passed by, the staff were able to grab a bottle from it.
According to Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, General President of the President for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, during the times of pandemic like this, it is important to take advantage of technological advances to maintain the safety of the pilgrims.
This robot has been designed in such a way to reduce contamination, especially what we are currently focusing on, the coronavirus.
Pilgrims and mosque staff do not need to queue long or share bottles with others. Instead, they can simply take a bottle containing Zamzam water brought by this robot as it passed by.
Al Sudais explains that the smart robot distributes water through hygienic, so it will help avoids touching.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Saudi Arabian government has created and then introduced a series of measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus among pilgrims and worshippers at the Grand Mosque and the prophet’s Mosque in Madinah so that they can be safer and more focused on worship.
Before the pandemic started and enforced social distancing globally, around 2.5 million pilgrims came to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj. However, this year’s Hajj pilgrimage has been limited to only 60,000 people.
Like last year, pilgrims are restricted to citizens and residents of the Kingdom, with none allowed to travel overseas to take part.
