A stabbing at the Hamilton Downtown Mosque in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, left three people injured Friday afternoon, with police searching for two suspects. The altercation took place at 221 York Boulevard shortly after 2:15 p.m., coinciding with the conclusion of Friday prayers.
Hamilton Police Inspector Jim Callender stated a verbal dispute that began outside the mosque escalated indoors, resulting in three individuals being stabbed. Law enforcement confirmed that the suspects escaped in one or more vehicles, and officials are now meticulously analyzing security camera recordings to trace their movements. “This was a targeted incident involving individuals known to each other, not a random or hate-motivated attack,” Callender emphasized.
Two victims were rushed to the hospital, while a third arrived independently. Their conditions remain undisclosed. Witness Fadoul Hissein, exiting the mosque post-prayer, described chaos:
“We heard screams but couldn’t see through the crowd.” Neighbor Theresa Hopkins recounted the sudden police response: “Dozens of officers police swiftly swarmed the parking area just as attendees began departing the mosque.”
The mosque, equipped with extensive security cameras, is cooperating with investigators. Police urge anyone with information to contact Hamilton Police at 905-546-3816 or Crime Stoppers Canada anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
Authorities are working to determine the altercation’s motive but reiterated there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The incident has drawn local condemnation, with community leaders calling for calm.
