Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that citizens and residents may now perform Hajj on behalf of someone else—such as a deceased family member or someone who is permanently ill—without it affecting the five-year restriction that normally applies.
Previously, the only way a person could perform Hajj more than once within five years was by acting as a mahram (male guardian) for a female pilgrim. Now, those who wish to do Hajj on behalf of others can also do so without it counting against their own Hajj record.
The process has been made easier through the Nusuk app, where Saudi citizens and residents can apply to perform this special type of Hajj, known as Hajj Badal. The app guides users through the eligibility and registration process.
This change is especially meaningful for people who want to fulfill the Hajj obligation for their late parents or elderly relatives.
To perform Hajj on someone else’s behalf, the person must have already completed their own Hajj. The one being represented must either be deceased or physically unable to perform the pilgrimage themselves.
The Ministry encourages all interested pilgrims to review the rules and instructions on the Nusuk platform before applying.
