Quran memorization sessions held at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina have attracted over 60,000 male and female participants this year, ranging in age from 4 to 91, according to Saudi newspaper Al Watan.
The sessions included 1,900 in-person classes and 900 remote courses, benefiting students from more than 160 countries who spoke 16 different languages. The program also featured daily instruction by five Quran reciters, guiding participants in the proper recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran.
These sessions, held in Islam’s second-holiest mosque, integrate modern technology to teach Quranic recitation. The initiative aims to reach Muslims worldwide, offering opportunities to those unable to attend regular classes while providing a supportive environment for learning.
The Prophet’s Mosque, which houses Al Rawda Al Sharifa—the location of the Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) tomb—welcomed over 280 million worshipers in 2023. Following their Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca’s Grand Mosque, many Muslims journey to Medina to pray at the Prophet’s Mosque.
This year, more than 10 million Muslims prayed at Al Rawda Al Sharifa, marking a 26% increase compared to the previous year, according to Saudi statistics released in October.
