Starting July 1, 2024, entry into the Mataaf area will be limited to Umrah pilgrims wearing an Ihram. This rule ensures a smoother and more organized experience for worshippers performing Tawaf around the Kaaba.

The decision to restrict entry to those in Ihram attire is part of ongoing efforts to manage the large crowds in the Mataaf, especially during peak times.

By allowing only those in the traditional white garments worn during Umrah, authorities hope to streamline the flow of pilgrims and reduce congestion in this sacred space.

Saudi Arabia had recently allowed pilgrims in any clothing into the Mataaf area, but that rule only applied during the Hajj 2024 season.

The restriction on Mataaf entry is expected to remain in place indefinitely, with authorities monitoring its impact and adjusting as needed.

In addition to this new regulation, other measures have been implemented to support the smooth operation of the Grand Mosque during peak pilgrimage seasons, such as enhanced crowd management strategies, improved facilities, and increased staffing to assist with the needs of the millions of pilgrims who visit each year.
