TORONTO — The name Muhammad has entered the top ten list of most popular names for boys in Ontario, ranking 9th according to the province’s latest annual data.
This is the first time in at least a decade that the name has appeared among Ontario’s top ten.
The top names for girls in 2023 were Olivia, Charlotte, and Sophia. For boys, Noah and Liam held the top two spots, with Theodore, Oliver, and Jack rounding out the top five.
Muhammad’s entry at number nine places it ahead of names like Leo and just behind Lucas.
Muhammad Haseeb Ahmad, a software engineer and recent University of Windsor graduate, expressed pride in the representation.
“I’m proud that Muslims and the Asian continent are represented in the top names list,” he said.
Ontario, which has seen significant growth in its Muslim population over the past two decades.
