The King Abdulaziz Foundation (Darah) will host an international forum in Jumada al-Awwal 1447H (November 2025) on Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques’ history.
Titled “Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques: History, Culture, Architecture – Toward Sustainable Knowledge and Digital Documentation,” it advances Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving this key Islamic heritage.
Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the Guests of God Service Program, the forum will assemble historians, architects, art scholars, geographers, media specialists, and digital researchers.
Participants will explore new approaches to recording and sharing the legacy of Mecca and Medina, emphasizing the role of cutting-edge technologies in creating immersive, accessible archives.
Dr. Fahd Al-Mutairi, Director General of Darah, said the forum aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. “By bringing together experts across fields, we can develop innovative digital tools that preserve manuscripts, maps, and architectural records—and share them with the world,” he explained.
The symposium will feature sessions on:
- Saudi Arabia’s custodianship of Mecca’s Grand Mosque and Medina’s Prophet’s Mosque
- Historical pilgrim accounts, from early travel diaries to modern reportage
- Evolution of mosque architecture and its visual symbolism
- Hajj in collective memory, exploring oral traditions, poetry, and art
- Digital documentation, including 3D scanning, virtual reality tours, and online archives
Scholars interested in presenting their research may submit papers through Darah’s online portal until the end of Rabi al-Awwal 1447H.
Submitted manuscripts will undergo a one-month peer review, followed by a revision period. Final acceptance notices will be issued two weeks after revisions conclude.
