BERLIN – President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier has uttered a positive statement in which he says “Islam belongs to Germany” amid growing islamophobia and racism in the country.
Racism in Germany is often fueled by far-right groups, media, and politicians making the lives of Muslim immigrants unbeatable.
“Islam, the Muslim religion, life and culture have taken roots in our (Germany) country.”
German president while addressing at the 50th founding anniversary of VIKZ (Association of Islamic Cultural Centers) in Cologne.
He also said the population of 5 million Muslims is part of Germany. He also said that Germany is a neutral state. But religious freedom in no way shows that the country is free of religion.
His remarks came after a report said Muslim immigrants face Islamophobia daily in Germany. A total of 898 anti-Muslim incident reports in 2022.
