Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA) has launched “In the Prophet’s Steps,” a hand‑on journey recreating the Hijrah—Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE.
Selected from over one million applicants, 300,000 pilgrims will set out this November along the 470 km historic path, 305 km of which can now be walked through 41 rehabilitated landmarks.
Eight shaded rest stations and five multimedia hubs mark key moments of the migration, while a new Migration Museum on the Medina outskirts offers artifacts, immersive displays, and expert commentary.

Specially equipped 4×4 vehicles will shuttle visitors between distant points. The steep ascent to the Cave of Thawr, once a two‑hour climb, now takes just three minutes by vehicle.
GEA Chairman Turki Al‑Sheikh said the project brings faith to life: “By retracing the Hijrah, pilgrims connect deeply with our shared history.”

Up to 12,000 people will travel the route daily, supported by 30 local eateries, 50 craft shops, medical teams, security patrols, and hydration stations.
Indonesia shows strongest interest, with pilgrim trails planned for Malaysia, Turkey, and Pakistan.

By 2030, Saudi officials aim to host five million visitors annually, reinforcing both spiritual enrichment and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 tourism targets.
