Nyai Nur Fadillah, a 45-year-old woman from Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia, passed away on May 8, 2025, while en route to the holy city of Madinah for Hajj 2025.
She was part of the SUB 20 group, a contingent of Indonesian pilgrims departing from Juanda International Airport in Surabaya.
The 45-year-old woman from Sidoarjo, East Java, was aboard Saudia flight SV5323, which departed from Jakarta at 7:00 AM local time. She died mid-flight at approximately 6:30 AM Saudi Arabian time, reportedly due to illness.
Upon arrival in Madinah, necessary procedures were carried out by Hajj mission officials in coordination with Saudi authorities.
She was laid to rest in the revered Al-Baqi Cemetery, a site of deep significance to Muslims around the world, where many companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) are buried.
Fellow pilgrims and officials offered prayers for her, honoring her intention and journey to perform Hajj. Her passing has been met with solemn respect, as dying during the pilgrimage is regarded by many Muslims as a blessed end.
The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has extended condolences to her family and continues to monitor the wellbeing of all Indonesian pilgrims. Over 200,000 Indonesians are expected to take part in this year’s Hajj.
