Speaking at a public event, Goa’s governor Pillai pointed out that the Muslim population in Goa has risen by 12%, marking a noteworthy demographic change.

He emphasized the need for communal harmony and unity in light of the growing diversity, calling for respect and understanding among Goa’s various religious communities.

The governor’s remarks have sparked discussions across political and social spheres, with some viewing it as a call to maintain the peaceful coexistence Goa has historically enjoyed. Goa, known for its rich cultural diversity, is home to Hindu, Christian, and Muslim populations, with the latter group showing steady growth in recent years.

Governor Pillai did not provide specific data or timeframes regarding the increase but acknowledged the shift as part of the state’s evolving social and cultural landscape.

While some political figures and groups have expressed concerns over the changing demographics, many have reiterated the importance of safeguarding the state’s long-standing tradition of religious tolerance and inclusivity.

Governor Pillai also mentioned the need for Goa’s leadership and its people to work together to guarantee that demographic changes do not disrupt the harmony of the state but are instead seen as an opportunity for strengthening unity and fostering mutual respect.
