MADINAH – Video shows BJP leader Smriti Irani visiting the outskirts of Masjid an-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) in Madinah.

Smriti Irani, serving as the Union Minister for Minority Affairs of India, attended the opening session of the third Haj and Umrah conference on Tuesday.

At the event, she dialogued with the Deputy Governor of Makkah Region and the Minister of Haj and Umrah about potential areas for enhanced collaboration to better the services and amenities for Indian devotees.

In addition to her role in Minority Affairs, Irani heads the Union Ministry for Women and Child Development. Her associate at the meeting was V Muraleedharan, the Minister of State for External Affairs.

The party she belongs to is linked with hate crimes against Muslims living in India. At the same time, BJP leaders are seen fueling hate against Muslims in India and globally.

It is to be noted that non-muslims are prohibited from visiting the Prophet’s Mosque.

Irani has voiced her opposition to customs such as triple talaq, a contentious Islamic practice of divorce considered harmful to the rights of women.

A Bilateral Haj Agreement for 2024 was inked between India and Saudi Arabia on Sunday. Under the stipulations of this agreement, India has been assigned a quota of 1,75,025 participants for the yearly Haj pilgrimage in 2024.
