Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, President of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, the Women’s Affairs Agency has launched the “Suruj” initiative.
This program will strengthen the role of women in serving the Holy Mosque (Masjid al Haram), aligning with the Kingdom’s vision to empower women in religious and volunteer work.
Her Excellency Dr. Aisha Al-Aqla, Supervisor of Women’s Affairs at the Grand Mosque, emphasized that “Suruj” is designed to provide exceptional volunteer services that enrich the faith experience of female visitors.
The initiative focuses on offering guidance, religious counseling, and support to ensure a seamless and spiritually uplifting visit to the Holy Mosque.
Dr. Al-Aqla added that “Suruj” reflects the presidency’s commitment to advancing advocacy and scientific work within the Grand Mosque. The initiative enables female visitors to access tailored services that meet their needs.
The “Suruj” team comprises a group of accomplished female volunteers with extensive experience in religious and volunteer work. Their efforts are guided by the Women’s Religious Affairs Agency, which aims to develop sustainable and impactful volunteer programs.
In its initial phase, the initiative saw 12 female volunteers contribute 69 hours of service, benefiting 1,283 female visitors and pilgrims. Services ranged from guidance and counseling to correcting Quranic recitation, organizing prayer rows, and providing translation assistance.
