Moroccan doctor Youness Ahallal has successfully performed the world’s first intercontinental robot-assisted prostatectomy.
This procedure has opened up new possibilities for remote surgical interventions, to bridge the gap between geographical and redefining the future of surgery.
On the day of the operation, Dr. Ahallal, a renowned specialist in robotic and cancer surgery, was stationed in Shanghai, while a team of Moroccan medical professionals provided remote assistance from Casablanca.
The surgery was performed sitting 12,000 KM away
Despite the staggering distance of over 12,000 kilometers between the surgeon and the patient, the procedure was executed with precision and success.
The operation involved the removal of the prostate gland from a patient diagnosed with localized prostate cancer.
This complex surgery was made possible by robotics technology, which allowed Dr. Ahallal to perform the procedure remotely with precise accuracy.
Dr. Ahallal’s achievement will open up the opportunities for international collaboration in the medical field.
