Saudi Arabia has announced plans to build a cable car system to improve access to the Cave of Hira, located in Mecca’s Jabal Al Noor, with the project set to launch in 2025.
This is to enhance the pilgrimage experience, making it easier for visitors to visit the cave without having to climb the entire mountain.
Fawaz Al-Muhrej, CEO of Samaya Investment Company, which is spearheading the project, confirmed that the cable car will be operational next year.
The project is in its final stages, and once completed, it will provide a modern, convenient means for pilgrims and visitors to reach the high-altitude Cave of Hira.
The cable car is part of the larger “Hira Cultural District,” which opened last year and spans over 67,000 square meters.
This district is situated near Jabal Al Noor, where the Cave of Hira holds profound religious importance as the place where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received the first revelation of the Holy Qur’an.
Historically, visiting the Cave of Hira has been challenging due to the mountain’s height and the rugged path leading to it. However, this year saw the introduction of a paved road to ease access.
The Hira Cultural District also features a life-size model of the cave, allowing visitors to get a close-up experience until the cable car becomes operational.
This development is expected to significantly enhance the accessibility of the Cave of Hira, offering a more comfortable and enriching experience for pilgrims and tourists alike.
