Fasting in Shaban: There are a variety of reasons that explain the importance of this month of Shaban within our religion and also why it is awaited by all of the Muslims.

We can say that this month takes us and leads us to better things. This month joins the two most blessed and sacred months; Rajab and Ramadan. It is one of the most favorite months of our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

Fasting in Shaban

Fasting is one of the main forms of praying that Muslims follow in the month of Sha’ban. Besides the fact that fasting is obligatory in the month of Ramadan, Muslims also follow fasting on different days of Sha’ban in order to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH).

Sha’ban also plays the role of a warm-up phase for Ramadan. It is very helpful in terms of preparing the Muslims for the consecutive fastings of Ramadan. To some extent, fasting in the month of Shaban is made controversial.

Some Muslims believe that fasting shouldn’t be done in the second half part of the month. Yet, Islamic scholars maintain a different idea regarding the matter.

Shab-e-Barat

The presence of Shab-e-Barat is another important aspect of the month of Sha’ban that possesses its own significance in Islam. The 15th of Shaban, which is known as Shab-e-Barat, is the most significant and the holiest night in the whole Islamic calendar. As per the Islamic teachings, fasting is recommended to follow in every Islamic month’s 13th, 14th and 15th days.

These dates include Shab-e-Barat as well. And it has been mentioned that Allah’s Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), fasted for most of the days in the month of Sha’ban.
