Wearing Perfumes Containing Alcohol Halal or Haram? 2024

The use of perfumes containing alcohol and its permissibility in Islam is debatable. Islam is an important religion, and its moral principles matter a lot.

So, let’s explore whether these perfumes follow Islamic teachings and beliefs.

Is It Permissible To Use Alcohol Based Perfumes

If the percentage of alcohol in a perfume is high, it is Haram. If the ratio is lower, it is Halal.

Based on the evidence, it’s clear that using alcohol-based perfumes in Islam is a topic that scholars still debate about. Some say it’s allowed because of the Hadith, while others advise caution due to the alcohol content.

Evidence

The verse of Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:90-91) in the Holy Quran has prohibited the use of intoxicants. Moreover, any acts that cause evil for instance gambling, intoxicants, and other vices are forbidden. But some people doubt if this prohibition includes alcohol-based perfumes used on the outside of the body.

To find an answer, let’s explore the Hadiths, which are stories about what Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said and did. Some Hadiths suggest that using alcohol-based perfumes on the body is Permissible. For example, in Sunan an-Nasa’i 1905 the Holy Prophet (PBUH) stated perfume as musk.

So, some scholars say it’s alright to use such perfumes because of this Hadith. They think the nice smell is more important than the alcohol in it.

But others disagree and think we should be careful. They worry that these perfumes might have too much alcohol and could be intoxicating.

Bottom Line

To make good decisions about this and other Islamic matters, it’s essential to seek advice from knowledgeable scholars who understand the Quran, Hadith, and Islamic principles. People should think carefully and follow their own beliefs, respecting the diverse opinions in the Islamic tradition.

And most importantly, they should remember to stay close to Allah and practice values like moderation, self-control, and personal responsibility in everything they do, including using perfumes.
