Stepping into Masjid al Haram (Grand Mosque) in Makkah or Masjid an-Nabawi (Prophet’s mosque) in Madinah is a feeling unlike any other.
It is not just entering a building. It is arriving at a place filled with centuries of faith, peace, and the presence of Allah.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us a simple dua.
Dua To Recite When Entering Masjid Al Haram and Masjid Nabawi

This supplication is authentically recorded in Sahih Muslim 713a.
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
Transliteration:
Allahumma iftah lee abwaba rahmatik
Meaning:
O Allah! open for me the doors of Thy mercy.
Why is this Dua Significant?
This short prayer holds a very deep meaning, you are asking Allah to open the doors to His kindness, forgiveness, and blessings.
Prayers at Masjid al Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi are multiplied many times over.
The word ‘rahmat’ or mercy encompasses everything good, asking for the ‘doors of mercy’ to open, you are asking for all these things at once.
How many times should you recite this dua?
- Recite this dua once each time you enter the boundary of either Masjid al Haram or Masjid an-Nabawi.
It shifts your focus from the physical grandeur of the mosque to the boundless mercy of Allah.
