Dua is the soul of Hajj. At every station — Mina, Arafah, Muzdalifah, the Kaaba, the Jamarat — you are standing in a place where supplications carry extraordinary weight. The Prophet ﷺ called the Day of Arafah the greatest day for dua. This guide covers every supplication you need, arranged in the order you will need them.
Before Leaving Home
Recite this dua when stepping out of your home:
Bismillahi Tawakkaltu ‘Alallah, laa hawla walaa Quwwata illa billah.
“I commence my journey in the name of Allah, having put my reliance on Allah. There is no might and no power but in Allah.”
Also recite Ayatul Kursi, Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq, and Surah Naas once before leaving.
When Riding a Vehicle or Plane
Subhanallazee Sakh-khara lanaa haaza wa maa kunnaa lahu muqrineen. Wa innaa ilaa Rabbina lamunqaliboon.
“Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have otherwise subdued it. And indeed we shall return to our Lord.”
Intention for Hajj (at Meeqat)
Labbayk Allahumma bi-Hajjah
“Here I am O Allah, making Hajj.”
Also recite:
Allahumma innee ureedul Hajja fayassirhu lee wa taqabbalhu minnee.
“O Allah, I intend to perform Hajj. Make it easy for me and accept it from me.”
The Talbiyah
Recite this continuously from Ihram until the stoning of Jamarat al-Aqabah on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah. Men recite aloud; women recite quietly.
Labbaika Allahumma Labbaik. Labbaika Laa shareeka laka Labbaik. Innal Hamda wanni’matha laka wal mulk. La-shareeka lak.
“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner. I am here. All praises and blessings are Yours. All sovereignty belongs to You. You have no partners.”
Recite Durood (Salawaat upon the Prophet ﷺ) after each recitation of the Talbiyah.
Upon Entering Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque)
Enter with the right foot and recite:
Bismillahi Asswalaatu wassalamu ‘ala rasulillah. Allahummagfirlee zunoobi waftahlee abwaaba rahmatik.
“In the name of Allah. Peace and salutations upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy.”
Upon Sighting the Ka’bah
Dua is accepted at the first sight of the Ka’bah. Raise your hands and recite:
Laa ilaaha illAllahu wallahu Akbar. Allahumma Antas Salaam, wa minkas salaam, fahayyinaa rabbanaa bis salaam.
“There is no God but Allah. Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, You are Peace and from You is peace. Grant us life O our Lord with peace and security.”
Intention for Tawaf
Allāhumma innī urīdu l-ṭawwafa baytika l-ḥarāmi fa yassirhu lī wa taqabbalhu minnī.
“O Allah, I intend to perform Tawaf of the Sacred House. Make it easy for me and accept it from me.”
When Beginning Each Circuit (Facing Hajr al-Aswad)
Make a sign toward the Black Stone with your right hand and recite:
Bismillahi Allahu Akbar Wa lillahil Hamd.
“In the name of Allah. Allah is the Greatest. All praises belong to Allah.”
During Tawaf
No specific dua is required throughout every step of Tawaf. You may recite Quran or any dua. The following is recited at specific points:
Near Rukn al-Iraqi:
Allahumma innee ‘auzubika minash shakki wash shirki wan nifaaqi wash shiqaaqi wa soo’il akhlaaqi wa soo’il munqalabi fil ahli wal maali wal walad.
“O Allah, I seek Your protection against doubt, polytheism, hypocrisy, schism, bad morality, and ill outcomes in family, wealth, and children.”
Near Mizab al-Rahmah:
Allahumma Azillana tahta zilli ‘arshika yawma laa zilla illa zilluk…
“O Allah, put us under the shadow of Your Throne on the day when there will be no shadow but Yours, and give us to drink from the pool of our master Muhammad ﷺ — a drink after which we will never thirst again. By Your mercy, O Most Merciful.”
Near Rukn al-Shami:
Allahummaj’alha hajjan mabroora, wa sa’yan mashkoora, wa zanban maghfoora, wa tijaaratan lan taboor.
“O Allah, make this an accepted Hajj, with accepted effort, a pardoned sin, and a commerce that will not fail.”
Between Rukn al-Yamani and Hajr al-Aswad — recite at every circuit:
Rabbana ‘aatina fid dunya hasanatan wa fil aakhirati hasanatan wa qinaa ‘azaban naar.
“Our Lord, give us goodness in this world and goodness in the hereafter, and save us from the torment of the Fire.” (Quran 2:201)
After Completing Tawaf — Dua for Zamzam
Bismillah wal hamdu lillah. Allahumma innee as’aluka ‘ilman naafi’aa, wa rizqan wasi’aa, wa ‘amalan saalihaa, wa shifa’an min kulli daa’.
“In the name of Allah. All praises belong to Allah. O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant sustenance, righteous deeds, and cure from all diseases.”
At Safa — Beginning of Sa’ee
Walk to Safa reciting this verse from the Quran:
Aba’u bima bad’aAllahu bihi- Innas Swafa wal marwata min Sha’airillah…
“I start with what Allah started with. Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. Whoever performs Hajj to the House or Umrah — there is no blame in walking between them.” (Quran 2:158)
Then face the Ka’bah, raise your hands, and recite:
Allahu akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allah akbar wa lillahil Hamd. Laa ilaha illallahu wahdahu laa sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, Yuhyi wa yumeetu, wahua hayyun laa yamootu. Biyadihil khair, wahua ‘alaa kulli shayin qadeer. Allahumma Salli Alaa Muhammad wa aali Muhammad.
“Allah is the Greatest, three times. All praises to Allah. There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and all praise. He gives life and causes death. He is Living and does not die. In His Hand is all good and He has power over all things. O Allah, exalt the mention of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.”
Between Safa and Marwah — During Sa’ee
Laa ilaha illallahu wahdahu laa sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, Yuhyi wa yumeetu, wahua hayyun laa yamootu. Biyadihil khair, wahua ‘alaa kulli shayin qadeer. Laa Ilaaha Illallahu wahdahu, anjaza wa’dahu, wa nasar ‘abdahu, wa hazamal ahzaaba wahdahu.
“There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and all praise. He gives life and causes death. He is Living and does not die. In His Hand is all good. There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone — He fulfilled His promise, supported His slave, and defeated the confederates alone.”
Between the Green Lights (Men Only — Running Section)
Rabbigfir warham, antal a’azzul akram.
“O Allah, forgive us and have mercy on us. You are the Greatest and the most Kind.”
At Arafah — Day of Arafah (9th Dhul-Hijjah)
This is the most important dua of Hajj. Recite it abundantly throughout the day:
“There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and all praise. He is Omnipotent over all things.”
This is the best supplication to recite on the Day of Arafah. Face the Qiblah with raised hands and make dua from your heart throughout the afternoon and until sunset.
During Stoning of the Jamarat
Say this after throwing each of the seven pebbles at every Jamarat:
Allahu Akbar
“Allah is the Greatest.”
After stoning the first and second Jamarats, face the Qiblah with raised hands and make any dua you wish. Do not supplicate after the third (Jamarat al-Aqabah) — move on directly.
Dua for Forgiveness
To be recited at any stage of the pilgrimage:
Rabbanaa Zalamnaa Anfusina wa illam tagfir lanaa, wa tarhamnaa lanakoonanna minal khaasireen.
“Our Lord, we have wronged our souls. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we shall be among the lost.” (Quran 7:23)
Dua for Parents
Rabbanaaghfir lanaa wa liwaalidainaa Rabbir hamhumaa Kamaa Rabbayaanee Sagheera.
“Our Lord, forgive us and our parents, and have mercy upon them as they raised me in my childhood.” (Quran 17:24)
Dua for Family and Children
Rabbanaa Hab lanaa min azwaajinaa wa zurriyyaatinaa Qurrata a’unin waj’alnaa lil muttaqeena Imaamaa.
“Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.” (Quran 25:74)
For Those Experiencing Stress or Difficulty
Laa ilaaha il’lal laahul ‘Azeemul Haleem. Laa ilaaha il’lal laahu Rab’bul Arshil Azeem. Laa ilaaha il’lal laahu Rab’bus Samawaati wal Ardi wa Rab’bul Arshil Kareem.
“None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Incomparably Great, the Compassionate. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Lord of the Mighty Throne. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Lord of the heavens, the earth, and the Honourable Throne.”
Visiting Madinah and Masjid an-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque)
Visiting Madinah is not a requirement of Hajj, but carries immense reward. The Prophet ﷺ said one prayer in Masjid an-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) is worth more than 1,000 prayers anywhere else except Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque).
When entering the city of Madinah:
Allahuma haaza Haramu nabiyika, faj’alhu li wiqaayatan minan naar, wa amaanan minal ‘azaab, wa soo’al hisaab.
“O Allah, this is the sanctuary of Your Prophet. Let it be for me a refuge from the hellfire, a refuge from punishment, and a refuge against the trial of reckoning.”
Giving Salaam to the Prophet ﷺ at his grave:
Asswalaatu Assalamu Alaika Ya RasoolAllah. Asswalaatu Assalamu Alaika Ya NabiyAllah. Asswalaatu Assalamu Alaika Ya HabibAllah. Asswalaatu Assalamu Alaika Ya Rahmatan lil Alameen.
“Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet of Allah. Peace be upon you, O beloved of Allah. Peace be upon you, O mercy for the worlds.”
Then ask Allah for forgiveness and intercession on the Day of Judgement.
An Important Dua to Recite Frequently Throughout Hajj
Allahumma innee Asaluka Ridaaka wal Jannah, wa a’uzubika min sakhatika wan-Naar.
“O Allah, I ask You for Your pleasure and Your Paradise, and I seek refuge in You from Your anger and the Hellfire.”
