Kenyan gospel music figure Kezzy Kenya publicly adopted Islam on 12 July 2025, announcing her conversion through a Facebook post.
The declaration featured the Shahada statement alongside photographs showing the artist wearing a pink hijab with intricate henna patterns on her hands.
A young girl in a cream head covering appeared beside her, both smiling in images captioned: “Alhamdulillah. We’ve taken our Shahada. This is the beginning of the most beautiful chapter yet!”

The Shahada marks the core Islamic proclamation affirming monotheism and acceptance of Prophet Muhammad as God’s messenger. Kenya’s entertainment community expressed surprise given Kezzy’s established Christian background.
She first gained prominence as a Seventh-day Adventist DJ before transitioning to gospel music, notably collaborating with Nairobi’s influential Msanii Music Group. Her work included performances at major Christian events and collaborations with gospel artists like Daddy Owen and Mercy Masika.
Social media reactions ranged from supportive messages questioning her artistic direction to applause for her spiritual choice. Industry analysts note potential career implications, as gospel audiences constitute her primary fanbase. No explanation for her religious shift accompanied the announcement.
Religious scholars emphasize Kenya’s interfaith dynamics, where such conversions occasionally occur without public elaboration. Nairobi Islamic Center spokesman Abdul Malik noted: “When souls find truth, celebrations follow. Her public declaration may inspire others.”
Entertainment reporters confirm Kezzy has canceled upcoming gospel festival appearances but plans new music releases. Colleagues from Msanii Music Group declined immediate comment.
