According to the London police, the suspect targeted a Muslim family and deliberately struck the victims with his truck on the sidewalk.
On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calls the killing of a Muslim family, which resulted in 4 members died, by a man driving his black truck as a terrorist attack.
Trudeau was giving a speech at House of Common saying, “This Killing was no accident. This was a terrorist attack, motivated by hatred, in the heart of one of our communities.”
The victims killed in this attack are the husband, identified as Salman Afzaal, age 46 and the wife, Madiha Salman, age 44. Their 15-year-old daughter named Yumna Salman, and a 74-year-old woman, who is the man’s mother, while their nine-year-old son survived.
“We all hope the little boy can recover from his injuries quickly, even though we know he will live a long time with sadness, incomprehension and anger caused by this cowardly Islamophobic attack,” Trudeau added.
The suspect on Monday had deliberately attacked a Muslim Family. Motivated by hatred, he mounted the curb and struck the family.
Shortly after the attack, police arrested a 20-year-old suspect. He has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Meanwhile, several leaders from the Muslim community have called the court and asked to consider this horrific attack as a terrorist attack and an act of hate.
Detective Superintendent Paul Waight said that the suspect, identified as Nathaniel Veltman, was seen wearing a vest like a “body armour,” got arrested at a mall seven kilometres/ four miles from the intersection where the attack happened.
Painful memories were brought back by this episode. In January 2017, six people were killed in a mass shooting in Quebec City Mosque. A driving rampage resulted in ten people dead in Toronto in April 2018.
