Sri Lanka has finally stopped the forced cremation of Muslims who passed away due to coronavirus after the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Visit.

   

Pakistani PM Imran Khan requested the Sri Lankan Prime Minister to stop the forced cremation urgently. The Sri Lanka government had banned Muslim burials back in April 2020, at Buddhist Monks’ request.

United Nations have condemned the Sri Lankan acts of forcibly cremating the Muslim covid bodies.

Health minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi ordered the ban’s reversal after Prime Minister Imran Khan raised the concerns with the Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa during his trip.

Sri Lankan Muslims saw the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan visit as an opportunity to stop the forced cremation. After the change of Policy, PM Khan thanked Sri Lankan authorities. And the Sri Lankan Muslims further thanked PM Khan for caring for them.

The OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) had also raised the matter of forced cremation in the United Nations.

Sri Lankan Buddhists, who are loyalists of the government, suggested cremating Muslims, just like Hindus.

In December 2020, Sri Lankan authorities had even cremated a Muslim baby after the hospital refused to give the parents the baby’s body.
