Orebro police investigate attempted murder as Sweden’s gang violence crisis intensifies; no arrests made.

Two people were hospitalized after a shooting near a mosque in central Orebro on Friday, with police confirming suspected gang involvement. After a while, one of the victims lost his life due to injuries.

The victims had sustained undisclosed injuries in the attack, which authorities are treating as attempted murder.

Swedish police launched a manhunt for the shooter but reported no immediate arrests. A statement linked the violence to “criminal network environments,” reflecting Sweden’s decade-long struggle with gang conflicts. The mosque was not the primary target, though worshipers were among witnesses.

This incident follows February’s deadly school shooting in Orebro—Sweden’s worst firearm attack—where 10 students and teachers were killed by a lone gunman unrelated to gangs. Police emphasized no connection between the two events.

National Police Commissioner Petra Stenkula recently warned of escalating gang turf wars, with 48 shootings reported nationwide in 2025. Orebro remains on high alert.
