The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques has approved a new term for the Imams and Khateebs serving at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, the Presidency of Religious Affairs announced today.
In a formal statement, Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, President of Religious Affairs for the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, expressed gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their support.
He noted that the renewals show the government’s willingness to enhancing the performance of daily prayers, Friday sermons, and special Ramadan services under the Vision 2030 framework.
Dr. Al-Sudais praised the Imams and Khateebs for their steady guidance of millions of worshippers, highlighting their role in preserving spiritual traditions and addressing contemporary concerns from the mosque pulpits.
He described the extended appointments as a demonstration of the leadership’s confidence in these senior scholars and their mission to serve pilgrims year-round.
The renewal covers all principal and associate Imams—who lead the five daily prayers and night prayers—and Khateebs—who deliver the Friday khutbah and major festival sermons.
While specific names were not disclosed in the initial announcement, they include many of the region’s most respected reciters and speakers, who have led prayers (Salah) during the Hajj season, Ramadan tarawih, and other key observances.
