ALIGARH — A school teacher was shot dead inside the Aligarh Muslim University campus Wednesday night at one of India’s leading educational institutions. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Rao Danish Ali, was attacked near the canteen behind the Maulana Azad Library around 8:50 PM.
Ali, a former AMU student who had taught at the university-run ABK High School for 11 years, was on an evening walk with two colleagues when masked assailants arrived on a two-wheeler.
Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon confirmed the attackers fired multiple times, striking Ali at least three times including twice in the head before fleeing.
University staff and locals rushed the injured teacher to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
AMU Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali confirmed receiving information about the shooting around 9 PM, noting the area typically remains busy during evening hours.
Officers are examining CCTV footage from across the campus and surrounding areas to identify the attackers and trace their escape route. A case has been registered with further investigation underway.
