After 40 years of saving, an Indonesian couple has finally fulfilled their dream of performing Hajj 2025 in Saudi Arabia.

Their journey was facilitated by the Mecca Route Initiative, a program that streamlines Hajj travel for pilgrims from countries including Indonesia.

Legiman is a cleaning worker, and his wife had been saving since 1986. Despite financial challenges and modest living conditions, the couple remained determined to one day perform the sacred pilgrimage.

“I am overwhelmed with joy. I never thought I’d see the Holy Kaaba with my own eyes,” Legiman told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). “I thank Allah and all those involved in the Mecca Route Initiative, which made the process smooth and easy.”

The couple’s perseverance paid off as they finally registered and traveled to Mecca this year.

The Mecca Route Initiative provides a range of services to facilitate travel, including biometric registration, electronic visa processing, and health compliance verification—all completed in the pilgrim’s home country. Upon arrival in Saudi Arabia, pilgrims can begin their Hajj with minimal delays.

Hajj 2025 is expected to take place from June 4 to June 9, 2025, in the Gregorian calendar, although the exact start will depend on the sighting of the new moon in Saudi Arabia.

In the Islamic calendar, these days correspond to the 8th through the 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the month reserved for the pilgrimage.

Pilgrims begin by traveling to Mina at dawn on the Day of Tarwiyah, stand at Arafah on the following day, and then perform the stoning of the devil and offer their sacrifice during the Days of Tashreeq before Hajj concludes.

Hajj is a religious obligation for Muslims who are physically and financially able to perform it at least once in their lifetime. For Legiman and his wife, their long-awaited pilgrimage marks the fulfillment of a decades-long dream.
