Imam of Masjid an-Nabawi Declares Celebrating Prophet’s Birthday Disrespectful

From the sacred pulpit of the Prophet’s Mosque, he emphasized that celebrating the Prophet’s birthday is an innovation (bid’ah) and a form of disrespect toward the Prophet.
Ali Hudhaify

Sheikh Hudaify stated that the true way to honor and love the Prophet is by obeying his commands, avoiding what he prohibited, and worshiping Allah according to the teachings of the Prophet.

He quoted the well-known hadith, “None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to you than your father, your children, and everyone else” (Reported by Bukhari and Muslim), to underscore that love for the Prophet means following his guidance, not introducing new practices.

The Imam further pointed out that the righteous predecessors, including the Prophet’s companions (the Muhajireen and Ansar), never celebrated the Mawlid, yet they were the best of generations.

Their success and victory in both this life and the next came from strictly adhering to the Sunnah and avoiding innovations.

Sheikh Hudaify urged the congregation to follow the example of the early generations by staying committed to the Prophet’s teachings without engaging in practices that were never part of the Prophet’s guidance.

  1. Best way of celebrating Prphet’s SAW birth is by truly following his teachings in letter and spirit. But we hardly follow them. A simple example is how we celebrate our marriages and valima etc. Biddat is there in every step of its celebration . Very few people perform Nikkah in the Mosque in India and dowry is rampant. Therefore no Barakah in marriages and divorce within few months of marriage is a common feature. Jazakallah khair.

    1. That is not bidah, that is sunnah .the only reason that Nabi (saw) told the sahaabah to read taraweeh on their own is because they did it so enthusiastically.Nabi (saw) was scared that Allah swt would command it to become fardh.

  2. Milaad Al Nabwi SAW

I appreciate as our Ummah we got different views but to state it’s not allowed it’s bit too far to state the least let’s pray Allah blesses us reunite as Ummah and come to understanding that we will differ let’s pray for Palestine & our Ummah as whole that Allah unites us all inshallah

  3. As Salam wa alaykoum brothers and sisters.
Celebrating Rasool Allah’s birthday has benefits for Muslims in general:
    1. Non muslims also hear about him and may research islamic history – maybe revert to Islam
    2. Our young generation of muslims meet together, especially in non Muslim countries. They feel stronger physically and spiritually when they see the numbers.
I believe that even though the imam is saying what is true, it is not uniting the ummah. These are distractions created by bin Salman and his cohorts to push Islam backwards all over the world.
They should instead be punishing the Zionists and their supporters by blocking petrol sales to them.
The Zionists are laughing at us because we cannot unite. Auzbillah!!
