SYDNEY — The Hindu Council of Australia faces formal accusations of racial vilification after its leaders allegedly shared content featuring far-right American activist Charlie Kirk and other anti-Muslim figures on social media.
A 96-page complaint submitted to the Australian Human Rights Commission details posts reportedly made by president Sai Paravastu and marketing head Neelima Paravastu between September 2024 and July 2025.
The Alliance Against Islamophobia, representing South Asian Muslims in Australia, claims the Paravastus shared content including Kirk’s statement that “Islam is not compatible with the West. Importing millions of Muslims is suicidal.”
The complaint alleges violations of Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act, citing posts that allegedly “offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate Muslim people.”
Neelima Paravastu, described as a prolific user with over 38,000 tweets, allegedly amplified content from controversial figures including British far-right leader Tommy Robinson.

Sai and Neelima Pravastu owns and works at firm called Bar360 in Australia.
The alliance asserts this conduct contradicts the council’s stated mission of interfaith harmony.
Principal lawyer Moustafa Kheir of Birchgrove Legal stated the council had “engaged in conduct that singles out Muslims in ways that are threatening and exclusionary.”
The Paravastus deactivated their X accounts on Tuesday after media inquiries began. The complaint seeks a public apology, content removal, and compensation for distress caused.
