Berlin: It has been reported that two dead bodies were mixed up at a hospital in Hannover, resulting in the cremation of a Muslim man.
According to the hospital’s official website, a Turkish national, Abdulkadir Sargin, died from a heart attack in Hannover Medical School Hospital’s emergency room last week.
The family of Sargin was shocked and confused when they saw the person inside the coffin of the deceased during the funeral preparations on Tuesday, and they were not prepared for what was to come.
The staff answered their call to the hospital, who informed them that his body had been mistakenly given to another family and had been cremated by the mishap.
As part of the Islamic tradition, cremation is not permissible and is seen as the desecration of the dead, which is why it is forbidden.
It has been reported that the Turkish Consulate in Hannover is in close contact with the family members and will provide them with all the help they need, officials have said.
